The Nod…

March 24th, 2009 | Category: General Mayhem

After months of research I’ve come to a concrete conclusion. Harley’s and ape-hanger choppers don’t care or acknowledge other bikes or cars that let them pass. I’ve got a CA Motorcycle Riders sticker on the lower right side of my rear window on my blue Toyota Highlander SUV. For the past 4 years, I’ve always moved over to the shoulder a bit to allow motorcycles to split lanes with ease. Pretty much every sportbike & CHP bike cop that whizzes past does the 2-finger thanks as they pass or nod with approval. Not a single chopper or cruiser has done that. Also qhile riding, Harley riders nod at other Harleys but that’s all. Is it because they need all their strength to hold onto the handel bars and keep the vibrations down? or have those american made vibrations rattled a sense of entitlement into the owners? More study is needed to come to a conclusion if chopper owners really are all dicks or if they just don’t care. So in short, if you’re on any sort of street bike, enduro, dirt bike, crotch rocket, drag bike or even scooter, you’ll always find me moving over so you can split my lane. Everyone else better get in line behind & if their bar ends scratch my car, I just might have to close the gap on you…

2010 British Motor Show Cancelled

March 19th, 2009 | Category: General Mayhem

Official Press Release:

Following a thorough consultation with the UK motor industry, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2010 British International Motor Show.

SMMT, with the support of the UK motor industry, remains committed to showcasing the achievements and products of the automotive sector. However, the economic downturn and the unprecedented challenges facing the industry both in the UK and around the world, have made it impossible for exhibitors to commit to a 2010 event.

“The British International Motor Show is the UK’s largest consumer exhibition, hugely popular with the public, and has been attracting increasing numbers of visitors over recent years, making the decision to cancel the 2010 Show an extremely difficult one. However, the global credit crunch has placed the automotive sector under unique pressure and has created a level of uncertainty that deters manufacturers from committing to large-scale, international events,” said SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt.

“The UK has a strong, diverse and highly competitive motor manufacturing industry, home to globally successful companies and iconic products admired around the world. Both SMMT and the industry are committed to displaying the achievements of the sector but in a way that better reflects the changing dynamics of the industry,” concluded Everitt.

Speaking on behalf of International Motor Industry Events (imie), the organisers of the British International Motor Show, joint managing director Rob Mackenzie said: “Given the great strides that the Motor Show has taken since its return to London, we fully endorse the decision to postpone BIMS until market conditions will again permit us to deliver a world class event that truly showcases the UK industry.”

Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d’Elegance Canceled

March 19th, 2009 | Category: General Mayhem

For immediate release. San Francisco – 19 December 2008 – The annual Legend
of the Motorcycle Concours d’Elegance, which takes place the first weekend each
May, will be postponed in 2009.
Instead, the fourth annual event, highlighting Indian and NSU as the featured
marques, is scheduled to resume in 2010.
The decision is due to the effect the world economy has had on many sponsors,
and while deciding not to produce the show next year was very difficult, it was the
most prudent. “We’d never do anything to compromise the quality of the Concours,”
says co-founder Jared Zaugg. “We’d rather suspend the event than see it done
halfway and I’m sure those that have participated would agree. This has been a true
labor of love and something we strongly believe in, so we look forward to reinstating
it after this hiatus.”
The good news is that the postponement is temporary and plans are already
underway for May 2010.
From legendary racers and builders, to celebrities and industry executives, to
owners and enthusiasts, Legend of the Motorcycle brings together a unique
audience from around the globe representing all the wonderfully diverse facets of
motorcycling. The weekend celebration is centered around a display of 200 of some
of history’s most important motorcycles judged by an international panel of experts,
and combines never-before-seen exhibits, contemporary product unveilings,
exclusive presentations, a collector’s auction and charity auction, receptions, and
rides, for an event unlike anything else in the motorcycle world. (A list of select
press quotes about Legend of the Motorcycle is following below.)
Information and updates will be posted to the website, LegendoftheMotorcycle.com,
throughout the year.

Google Street View Ferrari Meeting

March 18th, 2009 | Category: General Mayhem

Google Street View strikes again as it catches a Ferrari meeting in the action! Is there any way they planned this? I’m pretty sure Google doesn’t announce when they’ll be driving around, just dumb luck! Autoblog.com reports there’s a bunch of F430 Scuderias and 360 Challenge Stradales along with five F40s, three Enzos and a lone F50. I don’t know my Ferrari’s that well, so I’ll take their word for it…
